Alabama and Mississippi Chapter members and associates are invited to submit abstracts from a range of topics and disciplines. The submission deadline for abstracts for contributed papers and the poster session is Friday, January 20, 2017. Abstracts this year will be composed by the author using the guidelines specified in the link provided in the below "Instructions for Presenters" and submitted electronically via the link at the bottom of this page. If you cannot submit through the web page, please contact Kevin Hunt by email or at (662) 325-0870 for alternative submission procedures.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRESENTERS. ( PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING TO THE "ABSTRACT SUBMISSION FORM" )
MS Word documents are submitted through the website without use of any elaborate file transfer protocols, so the responsibility for formatting abstracts rests with the authors. Authors must follow the ABSTRACT GUIDELINES. The guidelines includes an example of how the final abstract should look. Once abstracts are completed, log into the below "Abstract Submission". Then click on the "Presentation/Poster Author Information" button which takes you to a submission form.
In the Submission form, you will be asked to indicate or provide up to four things:
- indicate whether the submission is for a poster or presentation
- provide presenter and author information
- provide the title of the presentation
- indicate if you are currently a student
If you indicate you are student presenter, you will be asked whether you want to be considered for the Best Presentation Award. If yes, you will be asked to indicate your degree program and the name of your major professor.
After completing the form, click on the "Next" button at the bottom. This will open up a new window that will contain all the information you provided. If you are satisfied with your submission, at the bottom of this page click on the "Submit" button or if you want to change your particulars you can go for the "Edit" option. Once you select the "Submit" button you will receive an e-mail saying "Abstract Information Recieved" and will be directed back to the Abstract Submission page. Now, click on the " Abstract File Submission" button, on this page there is a place to insert your MS Word document. Your word document should be named with last name followed by first name, e.g. huntkevin.doc or huntkevin.docx. Once you insert the document, click on the "Submit". This will transfer the file.
Your submission will be sent to a database, and a copy of your submission will be sent to Kevin Hunt via email. Kevin will follow up with an email to you saying that everything worked okay and that we received your submission and MS Word document. Again, if you run into any problems while submitting or you don't here back from Kevin by February 10, please contact him at the above address immediately.
Poster Submission Information: Posters have increased in popularity at our meetings over the last few years, and have really become a popular option to convey scientific information at all AFS meetings. Due to this popularity we advise you to look at the AFS guidelines for designing posters. To accommodate for spacing, we want to make sure that all posters are uniform in size. The AFS guidelines state that the typical size of a poster is 36 inches X 44 inches in a landscape or portrait format. Please keep these measurements in mind when making your posters.
