General Meeting Information
The Alabama and Mississippi Chapters of the American Fisheries Society invite you to their upcoming joint meeting that will be held at the IP Casino Resort Spa in Biloxi, Mississippi. Location: Tara Wildlife is a private management and conservation area approximately 30 miles northwest of Vicksburg. It is a well-known destination for hunters, anglers, birdwatchers, and nature-lovers. Tara Wildlife is located near Eagle Lake and several small communities but is remote from towns and cities. Meeting attendees should plan on bringing medications and any other personal items they require daily as there are no large retail outlets nearby. Tara Wildlife, however, can provide everything needed in accommodations – lodging, meals, soft drinks, and snacks. It also offers amenities including a big-screen TV, billiards, horseshoes, wireless Internet connection. Prepare for this meeting as you would for any other - but also be prepared for a meeting that will be distinctively different. When you arrive, check in at the Tara Dining Room. Mark Bowen will have the paperwork for your lodging (Receipts will be available prior to departure). Registration will begin on Wednesday afternoon and continue through Thursday.
First Call For Papers: Mississippi Chapter members and associates are invited to submit abstracts for presentations and posters describing their fisheries research and management activities. Oral presentations will be made in a series of Technical Sessions on Thursday. Each presentation will be allotted 15 minutes (12 minutes for talk with 3 minutes for questions). No concurrent sessions are planned, to maximize interactions between members. Participation and attendance by students, inactive members and other interested people is strongly encouraged. Submission deadline for abstracts for contributed papers and the poster session is February 15, 2016. Abstracts will be submitted electronically via the Mississippi Chapter's webpage, which can be accessed through the "Abstract Submission Information and Instructions" page.
Registration and Fees: Early registration fees will be $75.00 for regular members and $50 for student members until February 22nd. Regular registration begins February 23rd and will be $85.00 and $65.00 for regular and student members, respectively. Registration costs were set as is because all meals, snacks, and beverages are included. All registration will be conducted on-line by clicking here.
Lodging: Rooms are $90 (+$20 additional person) plus tax, (government rate $83 +$20 additional person). There are a limited number of rooms available, so please share rooms if possible. Meals and Events: Registration covers all meals, snacks, and beverages including the mixer that will take place Wednesday night (7:00-9:00pm); breakfast, lunch, snacks and the Banquet Dinner on Thursday (6:00pm);and breakfast on Friday morning. A raffle will be held during the Thursday night banquet by the USM and MSU student sub-units. Please note that no meals are provided on Wednesday, and there are no closely accessible restaurants in the area.
Business Meetings: The Annual Business Meeting will be held on Friday morning, March 11 immediately following breakfast. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
